My perspective is colored by years of experience farming and ranching, working as a field biologist, and taking on a variety of other roles in environmental and sustainability fields throughout Wisconsin, the Western US, and even from a plywood shack for a winter in the Yukon. I have a BA in the Biological Aspects of Conservation from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MS in Environmental Studies with a writing emphasis from the University of Montana. I have professionally taught environmental sciences, sustainability practices, writing, and wildlife field techniques to students of all ages and experience levels.

Most days I’m out and about hiking, biking, gardening, cross-country skiing, kayaking, or sitting on a good perch immersed in a drawing. I’m an expert at poking around. I keep a daily journal and try to draw or paint every day. I write essays and draw comics, and I’m a regular patron of my local library.

I have completed coursework in drawing and composition but identify as a self-taught artist through years of consistent practice. I’m most inclined towards working in watercolor and ink, and I love drawing illustrations, comics, and animal characters. More recently I’ve been exploring oil pastels, oil paints, copic markers, and Adobe Illustrator.  While I mostly create art for the sake of the practice, I do some contract illustration work with individuals and businesses. At present I am the in-house artist at Brix Cider in Mount Horeb. Feel free to stop by to check out my murals, cider labels, and merch over a glass of house-made, locally sourced cider!

If you want to talk shop on most anything, you’re welcome to send me an email at bethraboin17@gmail.com. No, there aren’t 16 other Beth Raboin’s out there. That’s my favorite baseball player’s number from back when I didn’t realize the email thing would be around a while.
